.) Click on the "Trial Project" orange box. Read through the parameters of the assignment. Make sure to click on the links (or copy them in a new window) and read about the specifics of the trial. Pay attention to whether your character's testimony is FOR/AGAINST/EITHER Shawn. This will affect how you fill out the pink sheet. Remember: you trial will take place on Friday, April 20th.
.) Complete your deposition sheet. To complete the backside, you will need to get your stories straight with any partners you might have. (Mom+boy, gang members 1&2, Shawn's family). When you are called to the stand, you will introduce yourself, describe your relationship to Shawn, and explain any connection you have with him or the night of the stabbing. Feel free to create "evidence" for your character. For example, if you are the ER doctor, you might want to create a PPT with pictures of the stab wounds (google images). If you are the Young Boy's mom, maybe you have pictures of your son't bruises or threatening letters than Shawn wrote. If you are Shawn's girlfriend, maybe you have love letters, texts, etc. showing he is a good person. Be creative!
If you are professional (principal, deputy, Dr. Pelayo, etc.) you will need to research what your job does. Dr. Pelayo will need to cite scientific journals that explain how parasomnia is a real thing. (Lawyers-if you can find research contradicting that, use it!). The Court Psychologist needs to research what tests are given to suspects to evaluate whether or not they are fit to stand trial.
.) PROSECUTION/DEFENSE TEAMS ONLY: Check-in with each witness and take notes on their testimonies. Prepare questions to ask during the trial.
.) Watch the video samples of testimony on my Vimeo page: https://vimeo.com/manage/videos
.) Once you are finished with that, move on to reading and annotating the article packet I gave you. After the trial, you will be writing in essay in which you take a position on whether or not juveniles should be tried as adults and support it will evidence from multiple sources.
