We'll start by forming a warm-up circle at the front of the room and playing games. Next, we'll move on to an introductory video on Aristotle's "The Poetics". Lastly, I'll give you a handout to pre-read before next class. HOMEWORK: Read over the handout on the Poetics that I give you. Tuesday | Day B Warm-up: Games -Highlight notes on the Poetics. We'll watch another video about "The Poetics". Lastly, we'll break into groups and create our own lists of the six most important elements that should make a film or play "good" by modern and personal standards. At the end of class, you will present your lists. Thursday | Day C When Aristotle was talking about plot, he referred to a beginning, middle, and end. In small groups, we will create slide stories with three parts and multiple characters. After presenting the slides in frozen register, students will have time to expand upon their slides and use them as an outline to complete an improvised story. HOMEWORK: Review the six elements of tragedy and other highlighted information from "The Poetics" because there will be a quiz on Monday! |
